Understanding Razz Poker

Razz poker, which is also called five or seven-card-stud-low, is one of the dozens of poker games available today. To understand Razz poker it is a good idea to understand the basic rules and terminology used in all poker games. The other names for Razz poker, five-card-stud-low and seven-card-stud-low, refer to a game in which each player is initially dealt two cards face down and one card face up.

The player with the lowest face card must begin the betting. Players dispose of unused “burn” cards and are dealt an additional face card to make up for the card placed in the discard pile. Cards are dealt in such a manner until they total either five or seven face cards. The object of the game is to obtain the best set of either five or seven face cards with the lowest ranking. In this game aces are played as the number “1” so that they can be played “low” and built off of with a subsequent 2, 3, etc. The best hand in five-card-stud-low is 5, 4, 3, 2, ace and in seven-card-stud low Razz poker the best hand is 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, ace.

It is also important to know basic poker terminology, although “hand” terminology is not relevant in Razz poker. Straights, flushes, full houses, et cetera mean nothing in five and seven-card-stud-low. Terms that are important include: “rank,” or the number of the card: 2, 3.4,5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace; “suits,” which can be spade, heart, club, or diamond; “all-in,” which is betting all your chips; “ante,” which is a forced bet where players must bet equal amounts; and “hand,” which can be straight flush, four of a kind, full house, straight, three of a kind, two of a kind, two pair, one pair, or high card hand.

Baccarat – A Casino Card Game With III Phases and a Bit of History

Before I explain this Baccarat game that dates back to the 15th Century, let’s review a brief bit of history. Americans got their first real glimpse of this casino game during the 1962 James Bond movie, Dr. No, when Bond, played by Sean Connery, was winning in a Monte Carlo casino. The game was Chemin de fer.

Phase I – Chemin de fer

In this original version Players wagered among themselves and won or lost with their own money. A dealer shoe rotated around the table counterclockwise after each hand. Players could decline the bank and pass the shoe to the next player. A 5% commission for winning bank hands paid to the house was to cover the casino overhead.

Phase II – Punto Banco

Punto Banco, meaning Player, Banker, was introduced in Nevada from Cuba in the late 1950’s, where it was very popular until Castro closed he mob run casinos. The main difference from the French version is that the house banks the game. A tie bet was added to increase the house edge, and the 5% commission to the house for a winning bank bet remains in place. Eventually the name baccarat, Italian for zero, was coined. Today baccarat is played in high limit rooms throughout the world where millions are won and lost each day.

Phase III – Mini-Baccarat

Eventually gaming establishments saw profit potential with Baccarat however they had to make it attractive to the average player. Hence, a new version was born, Mini-Baccarat.The rules for this game are exactly the same as Punto Banco except one house dealer controls he game for up to seven players. Table minimums are as low as $5 or $10. Numerous optional side bets have been added to increase the house edge.

How to Play Baccarat

The objective of baccarat is for the player to come as close to the number 9 as possible. Aces count as one, 2’s – 9’s are face value and 10’s – K’s count as zero.

Regardless of the number of players, the dealer only deals two hands from a six or eight deck shoe. Prior to the deal players must first place one bet on either the bank hand, player hand, or tie. Croupiers pass the shoe so players have the option in turn to deal the cards. In Mini-Baccarat, the shoe remains in place and the dealer controls all the action.

When a hand is totaled, it cannot exceed 9. If the two cards total more than 9, the first digit is dropped. The second digit becomes the total. Ex: 7,8=15. (the 1 is dropped) total = 5.

Baccarat requires no skill to play. All the player needs to do is place one bet before the deal. The dealer examines both hands to determine if a third and final card should be drawn. The determination is made according to a fixed set of game rules. Here they are:

Game Rules for Player Bet

The player position always draws on a 0, 1, and 2,3,4,5, unless the banker has a natural 8 or 9. Player always stands on 6,7,8, and 9. When the play bet has a natural 8 or 9, the game is over.

Game Rules for Banker Bet

The banker position always draws on a 0, 1, and 2 unless the player has a natural 8 or 9. The banker always stands on 7,8, and 9. When a banker has a natural 8 or 9, the game is over.

Strategy

No playing strategy is required. Always bet the bank which has the lowest house edge at 1.06%, even with the 5% commission owed to the house. A player bet has a house edge of 1.24% while the tie bet that pays 8 to 1 has a whopping house edge of 14%!. This bet is not recommended. A number of optional side bets at the mini tables have house edges from 2 to 13%. These are not recommended.

Good luck!

Poker is a popular card game played by anyone of any gender and any age. Players can use real or fake money, they could play in a casino or at a kitchen table. There are many different types of poker game to choose from. When choosing a the type of game you are going to play, figure out one that fits the abilities of all the players so it will be fun and enjoyable for all.

Texas Hold’em is possibly the most popular poker game around. It is about strategy and mental thinking. Every individual playing is dealt two cards and they need to decide if they want to bet money on these cards.

Throughout the game, five community cards are shown that everyone can use. Through strategy, individuals figure out their chances and capabilities of winning. Every poker room in every casino worldwide online and off offers this game.

Omaha Hold’em is another poker game with community cards. It has similarities to Texas Hold’em but with some twists. Players are dealt four cards and must use at least two of those cards, along with three of the community cards, to build a hand.

Until the advent of Hold’em, many poker players played non-flop poker games, like Five and Seven Card Stud. In these games, players create the best five-card hand possible with what they have. No community cards are available. Certain cards of each person playing are exposed on the table for the other players to see. It requires good memorization and keen observation skills, as players look at the exposed cards and try to figure out what hand another poker player is building. Bluffing is not often used as these games are more straightforward and require a bit more skill.

Draw poker games still exist in some private poker circles, but not too many casinos have tables unless requested. In a Draw game, it is about skill in building the best poker hand. Every poker player is dealt five cards. After an initial round of betting, individuals exchange a maximum of four cards for new cards to build their hand. After a second round of betting, the poker players show their hands and the best wins. It is a quick game that is often reserved for more seasoned players because they must be able to read their cards and see what they are able to build, if anything at all.

Poker A Novice’s Guide – 5 Card Draw The Basis Of Poker Games

You wont find 5 card draw poker in the casino or online much as newer hybrid varieties are more popular.

However 5 card draw is the basis of all the new games (including the poker found on video slots) So lets learn it here and you the basics covered, before you look at all the variations.

Poker is actually a very simple game to play but can take years to master and is essentially a game of psychology and is one casino game where the best hand does not guarantee you will win.

Lets look at the basics of 5 card draw poker.

Playing the Game of 5 Card Draw Poker

5 Card Draw Poker begins only when all players place an ‘ante’ or opening bet into the ‘pot’ (on the table).

There are certain variations concerning the betting, and the game is often nicknamed after these.

After the antes are all in, the dealer will deal five cards to each player, all face down.

In 5 Card Draw Poker, all cards are hidden until the hand is over.

Because of this there is no real information on who is holding what.

The only clues you can get, are bet amounts, the ‘tells’ or nervousness or confidence of the players, and also how many cards each player drew, and of course, there is the prospect any or all of them could be bluffing.

This is really what makes poker so exciting the expectation and anticipation. This especially 5 card draw poker, as you really wont know who is bluffing, who has a good hand, who not, till the very end.

The Games Routine

Now the player to the dealer’s left can either bet, with an option to bet ($5 at this point) or to check, meaning to pass, or fold (drop out of the hand).

In case the first player bets, the second player can no longer check. He can his only call, raise or fold. Usually you can only raise 3 times per hand.

After this round of betting in 5 card craw poker, the players remaining in the hand have the option to replace cards in their hand with new cards.

Again, the player to the dealer’s left is the first to ‘draw’ (take new cards for those he has discarded.

He can discard from 1 to 4 cards, and in some games all 5). Next, the other players draw in their turn.

The way to draw is for you and select the cards you don’t want, remove them and remove them from your hand.

Next you give them to the dealer, at the same time saying how many cards you want ( note you can only take as many cards as you give to the dealer).

The Technique of Replacing Your Cards

As we said above, you can replace 1 to 4 of your cards. Some games even allow 5 but it doesn’t really bring an advantage for you to do that in 5 Card Draw Poker.

Even where you draw four new cards all will assume you are holding an ace, so you give away some clue to your hand. In poker, the less information you give the better. Its bad play to ask 4 cards.

Therefore, the players will draw from none to 3 cards.

The player who draws no cards is known to be “pat.” This means to the other players he has a strong hand like a straight, a flush, or a full house, or of course he could be bluffing.

However there is a kind of bluff that’s used to create the impression of strength.

In this situation a player normally could be holding two pair or three of a kind, and will draw no cards.

This is a ploy in which you give up a potentially important chance to improve your hand, in return for creating the appearance of even stronger hand than you have.

In the same thinking you might be holding a completely worthless hand will draw no cards.

You hope to send out a message of strength, and if you combine this with strong betting and raising, you might actually win with all folding before you.

The Conclusion

Now after everyone has drawn their cards we have the second and final round of betting.

Here in our example you must bet at $10.

It is the player who opened the betting on the first round who starts the betting on the second round.

After all the betting, calling and raising is done, the hand is over, and if more than one player is left, all the players lay their cards on the table so everyone can see who wins.
